Otsuka Group Launches “Mental Ease at Workplaces” Program on Its 50th Anniversary

Commitment to employee wellbeing as a strategic priority in building a sustainable work environment

Jakarta, June 25, 2025 – In celebration of its 50-year presence in Indonesia, Otsuka Group officially launched the "Mental Ease at Workplaces" program, a strategic initiative aimed at creating a mentally healthy work environment and supporting the elimination of stigma surrounding mental health issues in the workplace.

This program represents Otsuka Group’s long-term commitment to sustainable human resource development and employee wellbeing. It promotes a holistic approach covering promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative aspects.

As a company that embraces the philosophy Otsuka-people creating new products for better health worldwide, Otsuka views employee wellbeing as a strategic priority in fostering a resilient, inclusive, and productive workplace. This approach integrates physical, mental, and social health as interconnected elements that support one another.

“We believe mental health is the foundation of productivity and wellbeing in the workplace. Therefore, to mark Otsuka Group’s 50th year in Indonesia, we are launching the Mental Ease at Workplaces program. We not only aim to provide a safe space for employees but also to create a culture that recognizes the importance of continuous mental care,” said Mr. Sudarmadi Widodo, Human Capital & Corporate Communications Director of Otsuka Group.

The program includes various initiatives ranging from education and training to improve mental health literacy, the provision of professional counseling services, and an inclusive rehabilitative support system for employees in need of recovery.

The program launch was attended by the Head of Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM), Mr. Taruna Ikrar, who expressed his support.

“Otsuka has played a vital role in Indonesia’s healthcare history. As a pioneer in IV solutions, its contributions to the treatment of cholera and dysentery are remarkable. Otsuka’s support for my research in Japan two decades ago has inspired the Academia-Business-Government collaboration model that we continue to develop in Indonesia,” said Taruna Ikrar.

Mrs. Maria Endang Sumiwi, Director General of Primary and Community Health at the Indonesian Ministry of Health, added,
“Otsuka has consistently been a pioneer in supporting the Ministry of Health’s efforts to improve public health in Indonesia—from tackling tuberculosis to now initiating strategic steps in mental health. We hope Otsuka will continue to be a champion and agent of change in creating healthy work environments and inspiring the broader business community in Indonesia.”

The launch of "Mental Ease at Workplaces" marks a significant milestone in Otsuka Group’s 50-year journey in Indonesia and reflects the company’s commitment to continuous innovation and making a positive impact on society and the world of work.
